Terms and Conditions
Last updated: August 21, 2026
These Terms and Conditions govern Your use of OctoURL at https://octourl.com, including our short links, dashboard and API (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, shortening a link or otherwise using the Service, You agree to these terms. If You do not agree with them, do not use the Service.
In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean OctoURL, the operator of the Service, and "You" means the individual or the organisation using it. If You accept these terms on behalf of an organisation, You confirm You are authorised to bind it.
Eligibility and Accounts
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. Accounts are created by verifying an email address, or by signing in with Google. We do not use passwords: anyone with access to Your email inbox or Your linked Google account can sign in as You, so keeping those secure is Your responsibility.
You are responsible for everything that happens under Your account, including anything done through API keys You have issued. Tell us immediately at [email protected] if You suspect unauthorised use. The information You give us must be accurate and kept up to date.
The Service
OctoURL shortens long URLs into short links, resolves those links when someone follows them, and records click statistics for the link owner. Depending on Your plan the Service also offers custom domains, QR codes, link expiry, password protected links, CSV export and API access.
Links created without an account are temporary. They are permanently deleted 7 days after creation. To keep a link, create an account before You create it.
Plans and Limits
We offer a free plan and paid plans. Current plans, prices and inclusions are listed on our pricing page, which forms part of these terms. At the time of writing, the plans carry these limits:
- Free - up to 10 links, no custom domains, and no access to link expiry, password protection, QR codes, analytics, CSV export or the API.
- Pro - up to 1,000 links, 1 custom domain, and the full feature set.
- Business - up to 10,000 links, up to 20 custom domains, and the full feature set.
- Lifetime - a one-time purchase carrying the Business limits for as long as we operate the Service.
API requests are rate limited, as are link creation and other sensitive actions, so that no single account can degrade the Service for others. Deliberately circumventing a plan limit or a rate limit - including by operating multiple accounts for that purpose - is a breach of these terms.
We may change plans, limits and prices. Where a change affects a plan You are already paying for, we will give You reasonable notice by email before it applies to Your next renewal, and You may cancel rather than accept it.
Billing, Renewal and Refunds
Paid plans are billed through Stripe. Prices are shown in US dollars and exclude any tax that may apply to You, which is added at checkout where required. By subscribing You authorise us to charge Your payment method on each renewal.
Monthly and yearly subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until You cancel. You may cancel at any time from Your billing settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period You have already paid for: You keep access until then, and are not charged again.
Refunds: if You are not satisfied, ask us within 7 days of a payment and we will refund it in full. This applies to first payments, renewals and the Lifetime purchase alike. Write to [email protected] with the account email address. Refunds are returned to the original payment method, and access to paid features ends when the refund is issued. Nothing here limits any statutory right of withdrawal You may have as a consumer.
If a payment fails and is not settled, we may suspend access to paid features until the account is brought up to date. When a paid plan ends, Your existing links keep resolving, but the paid features and the higher limits stop applying: while You hold more links than Your current plan allows, You cannot create new ones until You delete some or resubscribe.
Acceptable Use
You must not use the Service to create, host or distribute links to:
- malware, ransomware, spyware, or any other harmful code;
- phishing pages, fake login screens, or any other attempt to obtain credentials or payment details by deception;
- unsolicited bulk messaging of any kind, including SMS and email spam;
- content that is illegal where it is published or accessed, including child sexual abuse material;
- content that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights;
- harassment, threats, incitement to violence, or content targeting a person or group with hatred;
- fraudulent schemes, counterfeit goods, or misrepresented investment and cryptocurrency offers;
- pages that disguise their true destination in order to evade a platform's moderation, filters or link policies.
You must also not attempt to breach or probe the security of the Service, interfere with its normal operation, scrape it beyond what the API allows, resell it as Your own product without our written agreement, or use a short link in a way that damages our domains' reputation.
Certain aliases are reserved because they collide with our own pages and cannot be claimed as short links.
Reporting Abuse, Suspension and Termination
Anyone can report a link that breaches these terms through our Report a Link page, or by emailing [email protected]. We review reports and act on those we find justified.
We may disable a link, suspend an account, or terminate it outright where we reasonably believe these terms have been breached. For serious or immediate harm - malware, phishing, or illegal content - we act without prior notice; otherwise we will give You notice and a chance to put it right where it is reasonable to do so. We may report unlawful activity to the competent authorities.
You may stop using the Service and delete Your account at any time from Your profile settings. Deleting Your account deletes Your links, which means they will stop resolving for anyone who has them.
Your Content and Our Rights
You keep all rights in the destination URLs, labels and other content You put into the Service. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process and display that content only as needed to operate the Service for You. You confirm You have the right to link to the destinations You submit.
The Service itself - its software, design, brand and documentation - remains ours. These terms grant You a right to use it, not any ownership of it, and nothing here transfers our intellectual property to You.
Third-Party Destinations
Short links point to websites we neither operate nor control. We do not endorse, verify or take responsibility for their content, and following a short link is at the visitor's own risk.
Availability and Warranties
We work to keep short links resolving reliably, but the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that analytics will be complete or perfectly accurate. We may carry out maintenance, and may change or discontinue features.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, nor for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data or lost business opportunities, arising out of Your use of the Service. Our total liability under these terms is limited to the amount You paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If You are a consumer, Your mandatory statutory rights are unaffected.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from Your use of the Service in breach of these terms, or from the content You link to.
Privacy
Our handling of personal data - Yours, and that of the people who click Your links - is described in our Privacy Policy. Where You use the Service to collect click data about others, You are responsible for having a lawful basis to do so and for telling them, as Your own privacy obligations require.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as the Service evolves. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised, and we will notify account holders by email of material changes before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means You accept the updated terms.
General
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remain in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer Your rights under these terms without our consent; we may transfer ours as part of a business transfer. These terms, together with the pages they reference, are the entire agreement between us about the Service.
These terms are governed by the law of the country in which we are established, without displacing any mandatory consumer protection You are entitled to where You live.
